La Rocca

La Rocca (Castle of Civitavecchia) It is of medieval origin, It was built around the 1400 during the pontificate of Pope Calixtus III by Manzi. The final part of the harbour walls of old Centum Cellae.

The fortress was a focal point for the control of the port, It was also the scene of many clashes between the Roman Empire and the ’ Church.

It was destroyed in the 1943-44 during the war. Was never restored and now you can admire her remains.

Although the ’ building has never been retrained, the fortress of Civitavecchia is now a ’ everyone ’ artwork of extraordinary beauty.
